  • Reverse osmosis (RO) desalination with innovative long-lasting membrane and PV energy

Desalination plant of brackish groundwater, extending membrane’s lifetime with innovative treatment and using photovoltaic panels for energy supply.  Fresh water is provided to the people of the village with a 32m3/hr.

Implemented by Palestinian Wastewater Engineers Group in the framework of the international project "Mediterranean Integrated System for Water Supply", in Jericho, Palestine.

    Fields of application

Sustainable and efficient brackish groundwater desalination.

    PV solar energy.

    Produce freshwater for irrigation purposes.

    Target

1-     Water Scarcity Mitigation: The primary objective is to address water scarcity by converting brackish water into potable water through RO desalination.

2-     Sustainable Water Supply: The target is to establish a sustainable and reliable water supply, reducing dependence on traditional water sources and minimizing the environmental impact associated with freshwater extraction.

    3-     Climate Resilience

4-     Economic Development: Access to a reliable water supply can stimulate economic development by supporting agriculture, industries, tourism, and other sectors that require adequate water resources.

    Preliminary knowledge required (if any)

1-     Water Treatment and Desalination: Understanding the principles of water treatment, specifically desalination techniques like reverse osmosis.

2-     Membrane Technology: Familiarity with membrane materials, types, and configurations is essential

3-     Renewable Energy and PV Technology: An understanding of photovoltaic (PV) technology and solar energy conversion is necessary.
